The Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the enhancement and creation of wildlife habitat. WHC works with corporations and other private landowners to help them voluntarily manage their lands for biodiversity through employee and community involvement. WHC seeks a creative, skilled Regional Biologist/Ecologist in Tucson, Arizona. This position requires technical expertise coupled with the ability to develop relationships with members and partners. S/he will be responsible for engaging corporate landowners in biodiversity stewardship and sustainable land management through strong partnerships with industry, state and federal government agencies, and non-profit organizations, recruiting and advising corporate landowners in southwestern states and connecting their efforts to larger-scale initiatives, understanding and applying conservation education as part of community outreach, and other efforts of WHC. The Regional Biologist/Ecologist will have added responsibilities associated with being a member of Freeport-McMoRan’s Life Cycle Analysis Team (FCX-LCAT) such as working with LCAT team to evaluate biodiversity and natural resources across the portfolio and increasing awareness of environmental services tools to aid FCX in identifying, measuring, and valuing impacts on ecosystem services within the scope of its operations. Additional tasks include, but are not limited to, preparing and delivering presentations about WHC at business, government, professional, and academic venues, preparing articles about the WHC programs and success stories, and participating in planning of the annual symposium. The position may be required to work irregular hours and travel varies between 25% and 75%.
We seek an enthusiastic, self-starting individual with an undergraduate or graduate degree in wildlife biology, natural resources, biology, or related field to join our team. Knowledge and ability to address biodiversity issues, public/stakeholder engagement, ecosystem functions, and ecology of southwest region (with emphasis on Arizona) is necessary. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and oral), proficiency with MS Office, and familiarity with wildlife habitat management techniques are essential. Priority will be given to candidates with a background in ecological consulting, management plan development, and community relations. Bilingual /fluency and ability to conduct business in Spanish preferred. Other characteristics desired in candidate include attention to detail, time management skills, ability to set priorities and goals, and working effectively with minimal supervision.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
