The company has mainly 2 kinds of PV products, Amorphous and Hybrid PV. Amorphous PV offers superior performance under high temperature condition. Hybrid PV has tandem junction and achieved higher energy conversion efficiency than the conventional thin-film amorphous silicon PV module.
Job Description
The Applications engineer will be responsible for developing and managing all facets of the solar applications and solar systems engineering and technical support for the company’s Residential and Commercial Channel. The company has evolved into a significant player in the US photovoltaic (PV) market and you will be responsible for defining and executing solar systems engineering in tune with the requirements of the overall business strategy and which allows the function to scale with the company’s growth. In addition, you will be responsible for all aspects of technical and process training across the partner base.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Build the solar application and solar systems design and engineering including cost effective BOS identification.
• Lead the technical support function with the ability to create professional, engineered system solutions and one-line drawings.
• Develop PV systems solutions and work closely with the sales department to implement solutions across the partner base.
• Provide and co-ordinate feedback on the company’s system offerings, resolve any technical issues and help in defining the requirements for new systems.
• Manage and support the full range of company’s applications, products as well as Balance of Systems (BOS) components.
• Create and manage a best-in-class PV systems design and project management capabilities.
• Create and manage a best-in-class technical support infrastructure to support the partner base.
• Manage the generation and distribution of all PV applications engineering and related technical materials.
• Keep a neat and orderly notebook containing a record of all work done. Maintain other records as necessary to support patent applications for innovative products.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelors Degree (BS/B.Eng) in Photovoltaics, Electrical Engineering, Energy Technologies, power control or related field required. Masters Degree preferred (M.S./M/Eng.) or higher.
EXPERIENCE
• 5+ years of engineering experience with at least 4 years overall responsibility for developing, managing and engineering/PV applications engineering functions.
• Complete understanding of IEEE 1547, UL 1703 and all local building codes for commercial and residential installations.
• Ability and proven experience to think creatively, learn and develop cost effective, innovative solutions to electro-mechanical challenges involved with photovoltaic installations. Appreciation of mechanical engineering and civil engineering principles.
• 3+ years of customer technical or application support experience with photovolataic products, energy technologies, power control or related field, working directly with a installation network.
• 4+ years of experience in developing, implementing, and managing commercial and residential installations and projects.
• Demonstrated experience in the creation of customer documentation, including application notes and product manuals.
• Experience working with licensed contractors.
• Superior communications skills – both written and oral, and good listening skills.
• Strong customer focused attitude.
Computer Skills:
• Good skills with basic computer programs, MS Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint
• Good skills with the photovoltaic solar simulation software (for example, Solar Pro, PV*SOL, etc.)
• CAD skills desirable
• MS Access knowledgeable
